There are a variety of migration streams for Australian family visa applications for eligible relatives. These include Parent visas, Contributory Parent visas, Child visas, Carers visas, Orphan Relative visas, last remaining Relative visas, and Aged Dependant visas.
Every one of these visas provide family members the opportunity to be reunited with loved ones, provided sponsorship and visa eligibility criteria is met.
Parent Visas
Parent (Permanent) Visa Subclass 103
Parents of Australian Permanent Residents, Citizens and eligible New Zealand Citizens may be eligible for the subclass 103 Parent Visa. Once this visa is granted, the applicant will be a permanent resident of Australia. The processing period of this visa is currently estimated to be up to 50 years, and sponsorship is required.
Aged Parent (Permanent) Visa subclass 804
The Aged Parent Visa subclass 804 is an almost identical companion to the subclass 103 Parent Visa. This visa is designed instead for applicants who are of Australian pension age.
Contributory Parent (Permanent) Visa subclass 143
Due to the unrealistic waiting times of the parent visas, the Australian government has since introduced the Contributory Parent Visa. As the name may suggest, the contribution payment allows applicants to otherwise jump the queue. The subclass 143 Contributory Parent Visa is a direct application for permanent residency for eligible visa applicants. It can be applied for either from a subclass 173 visa, or directly on its own merits. As per the name, the application does incur a contribution payment, and requires an Assurance of Support. The visa applicant must be sponsored by an eligible Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa Subclass 173
The subclass 173 visa processes faster than the subclass 143 visa and does not require the Assurance of Support. It allows a direct transition to the subclass 143 visa. The subclass 173 visa does require an eligible Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen sponsor.
Contributory Aged Parent (Permanent) Visa subclass 864
The Contributory Aged Parent Visa subclass 864 is an almost identical companion to the subclass 143 Contributory Parent Visa. This visa is designed instead for applicants who are of Australian pension age.
Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) Visa subclass 884
The Contributory Aged Parent Visa subclass 884 is an almost identical companion to the subclass 173 Contributory Parent Visa. This visa is designed instead for applicants who are of Australian pension age.
Child Visas
Child Visa Subclass 101 and 802
Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens may be able to sponsor their children to join them in Australia with the Child Visa. This visa is open to children under the age of 18, and in certain situations, dependent children up until the age of 23. Parents must sponsor their children.
Relative Visas
Remaining Relative Visa Subclass 115 and 835
This unique visa allows the Last Remaining Relative of an immediate family to reside with the rest of their family in Australia. This visa is a permanent resident visa. This visa requires a family member to sponsor the applicant.
Aged Dependant Relative Visa Subclass 114 and 838
The Aged Dependant Relative Visa allows individuals who are of pension age to live in Australia as a permanent resident. There is a certain criteria that the visa applicant must meet in order to be considered dependent. The visa application does require sponsorship by an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen family member.
Orphan Relative Visas
Orphan Relative Visa Subclass 117 and 837
Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens may be able to sponsor their minor family members to join them in Australia with the Orphan Relative Visa. This visa is open to children under the age of 18, and in certain situations, dependent children up until the age of 23. Legal guardians must sponsor their family members.
Carers Visa Subclass 116 and 836
The Carers Visa allows a relative of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to permanently move to Australia in order to care for a family member who has no other reasonable option of care. There are certain criteria that needs to be met by the sponsor in order to successfully sponsor an eligible visa applicant.
